Speech
This award is the greatest award that any director can ever achieve in his or her career. It is the award we dream of as kids, and the award we battle for as adults. Year after year, us directors bring screenplays to life; whether it’s one we wrote. or one written by a talented writer, in hopes of winning this award, and this year it is my honor to humbly accept the Achievement in Directing Academy Award.
When I finally started telling people that I wanted to be a filmmaker when I got older, they couldn’t believe it. They would ask me, “Why?, Why would you let all of that muscle go to waste? Why don’t you play sports, bodybuild, or bodyguard? Why?” I would always tell those people, “It’s easy to build muscle, but making movies is hard, and I’m not one to take the easy way out.” When I was first starting out, I didn’t have all of the equipment or gear that I needed to make a good short film, but I didn’t let that stop me. I started saving money to get the equipment I needed. I knew that writing was an important part of the filmmaking process, so I began to write scripts every week, while I saved. The first scripts I wrote weren’t any good, and I couldn’t quite figure out why. Not knowing how to write a good script lead me to read scripts that were written for the Best Picture nominees. The more I read, the better my writing got, and the better my writing got, the more I wrote. When I had finally saved up enough money to get all of the equipment I needed to make a good, film-like short, I started filming the scripts I wrote; starting with my least favorites ones, because I didn’t want to ruin any of the good ones. Week after week, I filmed my shorts. Eventually senior year came around, and I was accepted in one of the most prestigious film schools in the world; USC. It was there where my love of film grew even stronger. There is where I started to write feature length scripts. There is where I wrote the film that won me this award. Winning this award has taught me the greatest lesson anyone can learn. If you have a dream that is truly your own, and not one that everyone is trying to sell to you, then making that dream into a reality will come easy. Sure it will be challenging along the way, and sometimes a bit discouraging, but when you have a dream that is very near and dear; you’d do just about anything to make it come true.

Weekly Blog Post

When Bill was around six years old he and his mother were on their way home. It was a cold and gloomy night with raindrops the size of baseballs pounding down with the speed of a raging bull. The train that his mother and him was supposed to be on had broken down, leaving them stranded in the worst conditions Bill had ever been in. At the time he didn't have a clue as to what was going on, Bill just knew that he was ridiculously exhausted and wanted to go home to his nice, warm, dry bed. The rain kept coming down with increasing intensity. With Bill being a six year old child who's never even imagined such harsh conditions, he had no choice but to feel frightened. A million questions were racing through his head. "What's wrong with the train? Are we going to be stuck here forever? What are we gonna do?

I quickly pulled out my cell phone,
and dialed liked I’ve never dialed before.
My heart was pounding so hard that it hurted.
The phone rang and I’ll never forget the pure excitement that was coursing  through my veins.
I was the twelfth caller.
I ran upstairs to awaken my sleeping beauty and tell her the news.
Her eyes lit up, but this time not with hate; with love.
We slept in same bed that night, and in the morning we were off to go climbing.
When we first started it wasn’t as nerve wracking as I thought it would be,
but as we got higher and higher my fear grew higher and higher.
Then in one split second, I misstepped and my worst nightmare became real.
I came tumbling down that mountain, banging into the ruggedly sharp edges,
until I reached the bottom with a violent and terminating SPLAT!
I hope she’s happy.

I wasn’t a very adventurous man if I’m being honest.
Every day before the accident would be the same ole,
Getting up to go to the office and coming home to watch tv.
I had an ungrateful wife who hated me and my mundane way of life.
She knew what she was getting into from the start,
but I guess she thought I would change;
she couldn’t have been anywhere further from the truth.
One day while I was sitting in my recliner watching the news, this advert came on.
It said that the 12th person to call in wins a mountain climbing adventure for two.
At first I wasn’t even going to waste my energy,
but I figured that it would be nice to finally win something.
37 years old and the only thing I ever won was a game of Go Fish!

Crowdsourcing for Businesses
First Draft
From funding new inventions to movies to new business, crowdsourcing covers it all. This up and coming form of fundraising is rapidly growing. The days of going around town asking for donations are long gone and in its place is the crowdfunding. Crowdfunding allows for individuals with an idea to reach out to the millions of possible funders over the internet.
The History of Crowdsourcing:
Although crowdsourcing is rapidly becoming more and more popular in the modern era, it is not a new concept. Crowdsourcing has been around for three centuries starting in 1714. Even though during that time period it wasn’t coined as “crowdsourcing”. The very first marine pocket watch was invented as a result of crowdsourcing. The British Government turned to the public to find a solution to a problem that killed thousands of seamen yearly. They offered twenty thousand euros, which nearly five million dollars in today’s money, to the person that could come up with a solution to their “Longitude Problem” The reward was rewarded to John  Harrison for inventing the first ever marine pocket watch. This was the first example of crowdsourcing in its vast three century history, but it certainly was not the last. In 1936 the well known car company, Toyota, turned to crowdsourcing by holding a logo design contest. The car company garnered twenty-seven thousand entries for their contest , which was won by Risaburo Toyoda. These are just two examples of many when it comes to crowdsourcing. Crowdsourcing was not always called crowdsourcing. In 2006, in Wired Magazine, author Jeff Howe coined the word “crowdsourcing”, which has been used ever since.

Crowdsourcing is arguably the best way to reach out to potential business partners and customers when trying to launch or expand an idea or product. One reason that support this claim is that when other see the idea some entrepreneurs will invest start up money. Another reason is that customers can give feedback on the product to make it strive. One might say that crowdsourcing is risky as people may imitate your product.
Crowdsourcing is trying to reach out to others about an idea or invention for help. the help could be defined as finances, deeds, goods, advertisement, comments and concerns.  Most of the world tries to use this process. majority that of the people that use crowdsourcing are small businesses, investors, and entrepreneurs.  What is so significant about this is the broad and availability to others this brings. Also crowdsourcing could involve stock. Stock is a business technique where you partially own a company by buying some of it for a set rate. they can help run the company but only proportional to how much they own.  An example of this would be facebook where they became a public company and people could buy shares (stocks of a company) so they would have more money.  When crowdsourcing is taking place the range to the consumers is great so getting feedback from the buyers are great.  There are three advantages to that crowdsourcing has which are range, finances and ideas and comments.  Range basically means that the company can be helped by the many people that reach out to. This help could be around the corner or around the world. Finances mean investors and entrepreneurs are able to reach  the owner and potentially help push the company forward or buy the company. With the company being so exposed the company gets tons of feedback.

The Ticket Sketch: Endings

                                                        The Ticket Sketch: Endings

Ending 1: One week later the group is sitting on a curb, and one of them says “I can't believe we spent all of our money.”, or “I can't believe we're broke.”

Ending 2: When the fourth friend holds up the ticket someone runs up punches him and takes the ticket. Then three weeks later the group is sitting on a curb, and one of them says “I can't believe we lost the ticket.”

Ending 3: After a week passes the group is sitting on a curb. They lost all of their winnings from the lottery. The groups sit there all depressed, because they spent everything. One of them is fiddling with the ground and sees a piece of paper. He picks it up; it’s another lottery ticket.
